About Paula Helene

Paula Helene started singing professionally at a young age with her entertainer parents: her first gig was at the age of six. She participated in a folk music show for young artists at age 15 in New York City’s Town Hall after which Robert Shelton, critic for the New York Times said, ”Watch out for this girl, she is just coming out of her shell.”

A move to Austin, Texas, led to many adventures, including a long time love of Torch Songs and the piano/vocal combination. For many years she toured Texas with a road band performing rock n’ roll covers and original compositions. During those years her band was the warm-up act for many well-known performers including: Dr. John, Delbert McClinton, Maria Mauldaur and Stevie Ray Vaughn.

Since moving to California, Ms. Helene has performed in a number of bands playing such venues as Yoshi’s, The Great American Music Hall and The Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. Additionally, for many years she has worked with a successful casuals band, which ranges from six to twelve pieces depending on the clients ‘wishe$’. In that band she has performed at all the major country clubs, private social clubs, golf clubs, hotels and wineries around the Bay Area.

From 1993 to 2001, she was co-owner and operator of a popular restaurant/bar nightclub where she did all booking and marketing of an eclectic mix of blues, rock and jazz bands. Paula conceived, promoted, and executed special events that paired unusual music groups with food and beverage: Evenings in Paris with French music, food and wine; Flamenco music with Spanish Tapas; Opera and Theater dinners. During those years she developed a very special relationship with many Bay Area bands and artists, most of whom are available for any combination required for the right band for the occasion. Paula still takes great pleasure in performing a simple piano/vocal act, adding saxophone and drums makes the act her latest personal project.
